On May 11, 2002, Dianne & I led a Sun Riders Miata Club event, where everyone dressed in their tackiest outfits and visited tacky tourist sites. We visited several historical markers, a WWII Truck/Tank amphibious vehicle, a Cuban Bakery, a VERY small park, a 1920's Drive-In restaurant (still in use, using the same silverware & dishes, I think), Tampa's first suburb's first subdivision, a fancy Hyde Park restaurant and Hyde Park shopping with a photo opportunity at the fountain.
We did get a lot of looks, at the bakery, but especially in Hyde Park. I stepped out to Mia's sidewalk table area to get the shot of the ladies shopping, and one distinguished chap nearby asked who I was... I explained that it was a fun event for our sports car club, and we had a contest to see who was the tackiest... He took a long look at me, with a long silence and said that I had his vote! I think it was a complement... But I am not sure.
Good fun, and a learning experience too. Thanks to George Bickner for sharing his photos.
